San Juan, Puerto Rico, July 2005

This trip was a sort of graduation present to myself. It was nice to go somewhere "exotic" without having to leave the country. While there, we stayed in Miramar, so we weren't at the hear heart of all the action. It was nice though because it wasn't crowded with tourists and we were between San Juan and Old San Juan.

We were sure to check out the main attractions, the nightlife and the beaches. There is plenty to do in San Juan, but I had the most fun in Old San Juan. The people seem more relaxed and friendly. We went to Señor Frog's a few times while down there. It was surprisingly good, but it also helped that it was the "off" season. The bartenders at Señor Frog's were lots of fun and knew how to get the crowd excited.

The beaches in Puerto Rico are expansive and lively. I recommend the beaches in Isla Verde. It wasn't hard to meet people, buy a drink, or even get into a game of football. We also went to the rainforests to get nice and wet. You get an amazing view of the island from those hills. I really liked the rainforest but I felt that we rushed our visit.

Old San Juan reminded me of the French Quarter of New Orleans. It had the same mix of colorful buildings, strange characters, and tight streets. This was easily the most beautiful part of Puerto Rico I saw. I'll be sure to spend more time there next time.
