Illinois State Fair - August 13, 2006
11/20/2008

I took a trip to Springfield, Illinois this year and I went to the Illinois State Fair for the first time. I wouldn't call the experience life-changing, but it wasn't bad for $4. The Fair focuses on mainly on agriculture so there was a lot of farming equipment and oversized veggies around. There was also an unusually large amount of corndogs being sold at the Fair (I'm not sure why, official food of Illinois?). I got a chance to see the Butter Cow that is carved each year. As you can tell from the picture; it's a cow carved out of butter. Elvis Himselvis was playing so I insisted on seeing the fake Elvis. He wasn't too convincing as the king because of an overall lack of energy, but my friend's dad was playing so it was worth seeing. Military units and enthusiasts from all over Illinois went to the State Fair to display all sorts of things. The memorabilia was very interesting, but I think the best part was being able to go into a real tank. I wouldn't like to have to stay in there for too long though (I hit my head in there twice because it's so cramped). Overall, it was nice day despite the ridiculous heat.
