Pictures from Hot Import Nights Chicago 2007
Hot Import Nights was everything you would expect it to be, as long as you're
aware that the "Hot" describes the cars and models at the show and not the weather.
The show was huge and absolutely packed. The main thing I noticed was that people
have upped the ante and there are more and more sponsored cars that tour the
country.
5 years ago this show would have been packed with Honda
Civics and Acura Integras, with just about everything
else being placed in an Other category. Now, the Lancer Evolution and
the WRX (and its STI variant) have become the weapon of choice for those competitors
that are more focused on performance. The showoff crowd, that tend to have flashy
paint jobs and elaborate in car electronics, tend to use Scions. The show also
featured many more of Nissan's S-chassis cars (cars sold around the world as
the 180SX, 240SX, Silvia, etc.). I attribute the larger numbers of modified
Nissans to the availability of the SR20DET engine, which was never available
on a car sold in the USA.
More on the show is coming soon.
